Innovative surface technology

The surface is a sight-defining aspect of plastic window frame profiles. How does an expert look at this? And how does one assess the latest developments in films?

Pieter-Jan van Halum has been operational director of Goemaat, which has branches in Goedereede, Oud Gastel and Goes, since 2023. Together with Martijn Goemaat, the son of founder Jan Goemaat, he now forms the leadership of the company. "In Goedereede we produce plastic window frames. For this we exclusively use frame profiles from VEKA." Why this choice? "For several reasons. First of all, the class A quality. VEKA's thick-walled profiles are distinguished by their sturdiness and dimensional stability. VEKA's delivery reliability is also unique. Moreover, VEKA distinguishes itself in the market by responding to current market needs with new colors and surface technologies. As a window frame manufacturer, this allows us to offer a unique product."

VEKA also distinguishes itself in the market by its surface technology. "One aspect of this is that with VEKA profiles, the foiling continues into the rubber rebate. This method of foiling is used not only with VEKA's traditional decor films, but also with VEKA SPECTRAL and VEKA Feinstruktur. The chance of a VEKA foil ever shrinking or coming loose is thus virtually zero. This is a feature that appeals greatly to housing corporations, for example."

High technical quality goes hand in hand with a unique, stylish look at VEKA. "This applies to the traditional decor films, the unique VEKA SPECTRAL and the recently introduced VEKA Feinstruktur." To start with the traditional decor films, they are still in demand. "Very popular with individuals, for example, are foils with wood grain in combination with the wood-look joint in VEKA's block profile. We also notice this in the window frames we supply to our dealers, who are mainly active in renovation work for private individuals." Commonly chosen colors here are steel blue, pine green and monument green. "In addition, dark colors are very popular. Think anthracite, graphite black and black gray. Dark colors are also very popular in the VEKA Spectral series."

Introduced in 2018, VEKA SPECTRAL was embraced by Goemaat from the start. "We were immediately impressed by its beautiful, velvety appearance. In addition, VEKA SPECTRAL provides optimal heat regulation." Architects were also immediately impressed." This meant a significant commercial advantage for us: as soon as architects started prescribing it, we came into the picture as VEKA processors for new projects."

"Some of the window frames we produce we also assemble ourselves," Pieter-Jan continues. We do that mainly for new construction projects and renovation projects, including for housing corporations. With VEKA SPECTRAL we have already done many large projects, including in Terneuzen and Vlissingen." VEKA SPECTRAL is also a success with Goemaat's dealers. "They have sold it a lot in luxury housing construction. In particular, the indoor and outdoor application of VEKA SPECTRAL was and is very popular."

VEKA Feinstruktur was recently introduced. An important expansion, Pieter-Jan believes. "With VEKA Feinstruktur, VEKA has again developed a high-quality design surface. Like VEKA SPECTRAL, VEKA Feinstruktur provides a strong frame surface and contributes to even better heat regulation." Other qualities include durability and weather resistance. "VEKA Feinstruktur is particularly scratch- and heat-resistant and has a high resistance to external influences. This has been proven in the weather and stress tests VEKA has commissioned. For us, this is very important because we mostly work in the coastal region. With VEKA Feinstruktur, profiles are optimally protected against damage throughout their entire service life."

Last but not least, VEKA Feinstruktur also makes a difference in terms of aesthetics. "That's in the combination and the smooth, matte surface with the fine, grainy texture that comes through it. It has a luxurious, elegant look." VEKA also thought carefully about the colors, Pieter-Jan believes. "All eight colors respond perfectly to market demand. Especially the addition of umbra is a success. This color is currently in high demand by architects."

Promoting VEKA Feinstruktur is in full swing. "Recently we held open days in Goedereede. In our showroom we have a permanent display of VEKA Feinstruktur with all available colors. Our dealers are enthusiastic and consumers also like it and are interested. We already have the first orders in!"
