And this is the sill that makes the entire frame recyclable

Modular construction

Innodeen's DTS Varipro sill offers profile houses a durable sill in standard lengths. A sill program that is modular and can be applied by all profile houses. "With our DTS Varipro Plus sills we offer customized solutions that are tested for wind and water tightness in consultation with the respective profile house," says Innodeen's commercial-technical consultant Roald Haneveld.

Both the DTS Varipro and the DTS Varipro Plus are C2C certified. "That circular aspect is very important to us as a manufacturer, because we are committed to sustainability. All the sills and products we make are made from recycled materials or are fully recyclable. And of the DTS Varipro Plus, we have all the CE reports available that allow us to give customers detailed insight into the sill's origin and performance."

Self-developed raw materials

To produce the sill programs, the manufacturer uses the in-house developed wear-resistant and unbreakable Hollodeen as a raw material. Says Haneveld, "This raw material consists of recycled material up to 90% and the sills produced can ultimately be completely recycled."

In addition to sills, the manufacturer also makes structural frames and cladding. Durodeen is used as the raw material for the structural frames. "The Eco variant of Durodeen consists of recycled mate-riel for 40%. For the cladding, we have developed Compodeen. That consists of 100% residual waste, 70% bio-based residual material in the form of wood fiber, to which we add 30% Polypropylene (PP) from household PMD residual waste. From the resulting mixture we extrude cladding, among other things," said Haneveld.

Demand for testing grows

With the DTS Varipro sills, Innodeen targets the plastic and aluminum market. The DTS Varipro Plus sills are custom-designed for each profile house that wants to apply the sill. "In doing so, we see an increase in the number of tests for wind and water tightness of the entire frame. This is becoming increasingly important. Not only for high-rise applications, but also because of good insulation."

Especially in the project market, that question is asked more often. "Both in the renovation market and new construction. A seamlessly closing window frame is increasingly becoming a requirement and also plays an important role in the energy performance of a home. This is where we can mean just that little bit more with our custom work." 

Durable frame

The profiles of plastic and aluminum window frames are recyclable but, according to Haneveld, in many cases this does not apply to the lower sills used. "This is because most of the sills that have been and are being applied contain fiberglass, which is not particularly durable. Plastic and aluminum window frames with a DTS Varipro or DTS Varipro Plus sill are fully recyclable. In doing so, we make a truly fully sustainable window frame possible for our customers."

On average, there are two to four sills in a home. Haneveld: "The regulations regarding sustainable and circular construction are becoming increasingly stringent. In new homes, 25% of all materials used must already be recyclable. Although the sills form a small proportion within the whole, as a contractor you don't want to get caught out by sills that still contain fiberglass. This is why we also recommend the DTS Varipro sills. That way you avoid potential problems and on top of that it is also better for the environment."

Individuals will follow

According to Haneveld, the private market is not ready at the moment. "That is a matter of time and then consumers will also start asking for the most sustainable solutions for their homes. People want to preserve and insulate and to that end they want to make the right and responsible choices. We already offer that responsible choice so when that private demand kicks in, we will be ready."

Great interest

Meanwhile, the manufacturer has already developed DTS Varipro PLUS sills for some profile houses. "With other profile houses we are in talks, interest in the plastic market is high. For some suppliers of aluminum profiles we are also looking at possibilities. Innodeen has taken processors into account when developing the sills. Haneveld: "Thanks to the positioning pins in the buttresses, the sills are easy to install under the window frames. That ease of processing is also important, because it allows the processor to provide a tight seal quickly and easily."
