Kawneer Netherlands recently commissioned 7 new charging stations for electric vehicles. As of 2016, there were already 3 charging stations with a capacity of 3.7 kW, intended to charge commercial vehicles. But with the increasing number of electric commercial vehicles, the number of charging points was increased to 14 charging points and also the charging capacity was increased to 22 kW.
Sustainability is in the genes of Kawneer Netherlands, based in Harderwijk. During the construction of the BREEAM Very Good certified commercial building in 2016, it immediately anticipated by installing 6 charging points in preparation for the electrification of its vehicle fleet. To efficiently charge the growing number of electric vehicles, it was decided to work with WDP, the owner of the premises, to greatly expand the number of charging points and significantly increase the charging speed.
"In 2017, 4,200 solar panels were installed on our premises, accounting for 118% of our electricity consumption," says Lars van den Berg, Technical Manager. "The new charging stations are powered directly from these solar panels. This way we make optimal and efficient use of our sustainably generated electricity."
Not only do we power our own leased cars with sustainable electricity. In line with Kawneer's sustainable vision, we also encourage sustainable mobility outside the company. For example, charging stations are now publicly accessible and we offer both visitors and our staff electric charging at actual cost.
The charging poles were made from discarded ANWB talking poles that served stranded motorists until 2014. Thus, the redundant talking posts with the distinctive "rabbit ears" have been given a new life and function. A nice addition in terms of reuse. "Again, this fits within the sustainable vision of our company" concludes Lars.
