Request the Whitepaper
There has been discussion in the market for some time about the fire class for doors when used in Extra Protected Escape Routes (EBVs). GND Garantiedeuren has submitted a request to the Ministry of the Interior (BZK) to adjust the requirements of building regulations regarding the fire class of interior doors. After an extensive risk analysis, it was decided to change the requirements for a large part of the doors in EBVs to fire class D. The change in the Building Code will (expected to) take effect from July 1, 2023.
It concerns the requirement of fire class B according to EN13501-1 for doors used in EBVs. For doors that are opened regularly, the fire class requirement goes from B to D. The new requirement is more in line with the practice of the last 30 years and is more in line with the level that also applies in many of the surrounding countries.
GND has released a whitepaper explaining why the requirements have been updated and what the changes mean. The whitepaper also addresses the implications for new construction and existing construction. In addition, a number of examples of common floor plans are included for clarification. In this way, the white paper contributes to creating clarity and preventing discussions between consultants, inspection authorities, clients, builders and door manufacturers.
The white paper with all the information on the changes regarding the Building Code is available for download on GND's website, www.gnd.nl/whitepaper.
