Using glass, metal and silicone, architects can create extraordinary structures - from spectacular skywalks, walkable glass floors and stairs to glass balustrades and railings, partitions and all-glass corners. Hermann-Otto GmbH develops, produces and supplies innovative solutions for professional sealing and bonding. With the new OTTOCOLL® S 645 adhesive and OTTOSEAL® S 7 sealant, such structures can be produced flawlessly, safely and economically - that is what the ETAG 002 test means.
We write 1881 when Hermann Otto starts producing putty. Today his brainchild has a strong reputation worldwide in the field of sealing and bonding. "We naturally owe our strong market position to the extensive range of quality products. However, the know how and experience of the employees is an additional asset. After all, this enables us to provide customers with expert advice and suggest the right product for each specific application," says Paul Bosch, who himself has been active on the Dutch market for Hermann-Otto GmbH for almost 25 years. "We deliver up to 10,000 tons of sealants and adhesives annually - almost all directly from stock - to more than 70 countries. OTTOSEAL® sealants and OTTOCOLL® adhesives stand for quality. We also supply them specifically to customers who are trained with us to work with them and processing is done with special tools. The range is continuously optimized and expanded to keep responding to customers' needs. Witness to this are the OTTOCOLL® S 645 and OTTOSEAL® S 7, a duo ideal for production of special glass constructions."
Glass as a building material for stairs and floors, partitions, balustrades or railings exudes transparency and spaciousness. Unlike other building materials, glass also provides the necessary daylight, which can have a positive impact on energy consumption. Careful processing and the use of a high-quality adhesive are decisive for reliable and long-lasting bonding.
"As for other applications requiring building authority approval, OTTOCOLL® S 645 can be used for bonding structural glazing (tested according to ETAG 002). This new non-corrosive 2-component adhesive (mixing ratio 10/1) was developed for special structural and geometric solutions made of glass and metal," Bosch points out. "OTTOCOLL® S 645 is characterized by very good weather, aging and UV resistance. The high elongation stress value ensures high joint stability. This product is extremely suitable for stress-compensating and weather-resistant bonding of a variety of materials, mainly glass and metal. Professionals also appreciate the fast curing, even with thick layers, which allows the glued elements to be processed quickly. Moreover, we can produce this adhesive in different colors, even special shades, and in small badges. The static calculation basis for OTTOCOLL® S 645 was determined by an independent testing institute based on ETAG 002. The design values are available to fabricators and planners."
OTTOCOLL® S 645 forms a perfect pair with OTTOSEAL® S 7, a 1K silicone sealant, MEKO-free. "We developed this product specifically for the weather-resistant sealing of glass facades, sloped glazing, wood-glass connecting elements, roof glazing and conservatories," Paul Bosch continues. "It does not cause corrosion on unprotected metal surfaces and provides an unobtrusive joint appearance. This sealant comes standard in a black color, but can be made in a color of your choice upon request. OTTOSEAL® S 7 is characterized by a long skin formation time, good adhesion to many substrates even without a primer, high notch and tear resistance and very good weather, aging and UV resistance. Like the other products in the range, this sealant was also successfully subjected to the necessary tests."
