2-component adhesive for curtain walls tested by external body
Using glass, metal and silicone, architects can give free rein to their creativity to create extraordinary structures: from spectacular skywalks, walkable glass floors and stairs to glass balustrades and railings, partitions and all-glass corners. With the new OTTOCOLL® S 645 adhesive and sealant, such structures can be produced flawlessly, safely and economically. That is what the ETAG 002 test means.
The sealing and bonding of facade systems and other glass structures is a real craft, which requires the necessary knowledge and experience of personnel. Hermann-Otto GmbH has been developing, producing and delivering innovative solutions in the field of sealing and bonding for more than 140 years. After all, the company was founded in 1881 by Hermann Otto as a manufacturer of putty. Today, that small company in the founder's backyard has grown into one of the largest players in Europe, supplying products for a variety of industries. The production site in Fridolfing meets all technical, social and ecological standards. Under the brands OTTOSEAL® and OTTOCOLL® sealants and adhesives are marketed respectively.
Glass as a building material for stairs and floors, partitions, balustrades or railings exudes transparency and spaciousness. Unlike other building materials, glass also provides the necessary daylight, which can have a positive impact on energy consumption. Careful processing and the use of a high-quality adhesive are decisive for reliable and long-lasting bonding.
"As with other applications requiring building code approval, one can use OTTOCOLL® Use S 645 for bonding structural glazing (tested according to ETAG 002). This new non-corrosive 2-component adhesive and sealant was developed for special structural and geometric solutions made of glass and metal. This product can be made in various ETA-certified colors on request," says Paul Bosch, who himself has been active on the Dutch market for Hermann-Otto GmbH for 23 years.
"OTTOCOLL® S 645 is characterized by very good weather, aging and UV resistance. The high elongation stress value ensures a high stability of the bond. This product is highly suitable for stress-compensating and weather-resistant bonding of a variety of materials, mainly glass and metal. Professionals appreciate the fast curing, even with thick layers, which allows the bonded elements to be processed quickly. The static calculation basis was determined by an independent testing institute based on ETAG 002. The design values are available to structural engineers and planners."
OTTOCOLL® S 645 forms a perfect pair with OTTOSEAL® S 7, a one-pack silicone sealant, MEKO-free. "We developed this product specifically for the weather-resistant sealing of glass facades, sloped glazing, wood-glass connecting elements, roof glazing and conservatories, for sealing glass elements or insulating glass components," Bosch points out. "It does not cause corrosion on unprotected metal surfaces and provides an unobtrusive joint appearance. OTTOSEAL® S 7 is characterized by a long skin deformation time, good adhesion to many substrates even without a primer, high kerf and crack resistance and very good weather, aging and UV resistance."
