A special villa in Velsen-Zuid, North Holland, has been nominated for the prestigious VKG Architecture Award for Sustainable Renovation. On this project, Select Windows was responsible for the supply of Energy window frames combined with triple insulation glass in the entire house.
Front door, back doors, garden doors and sliding doors were replaced by us. Advice and installation on this project was done by Select Windows Partner Van der Vlugt in Velserbroek.
The Vereniging Kunststof Gevelelementenindustrie (VKG) is the trade association for suppliers and manufacturers of plastic window frames. The VKG Architecture Award highlights projects in which circularity, execution technology and aesthetics come together in a perfect way and is intended to promote sustainable innovation in the plastic window frame industry. Windows and doors are important in connecting a building to the outside world, and window frames contribute greatly to architecture. Select Windows has always been committed to sustainable innovation, while not losing sight of aesthetic value. The nomination for the VKG Architecture Award is therefore a recognition of Select Windows' efforts in this regard.
The VKG Architecture Prize jury consists of professionals from the construction and sustainability landscape and judges the nominated projects, among other things, on their strong architectural achievements and the application of plastic window frames in a versatile and sustainable manner. The jury called the renovation of the house in Velsen a beautiful upgrade of a villa from the 1950s. The villa has been made life-proof and sustainable by investing in a heat recovery system, insulation and cladding, among other things. 'Beautiful how the renovation took the aesthetics to a higher level through the use of subtle color shades and detailing,' said the jury. For example, an insulating plastic front door from Select Windows was chosen in a slightly lighter color than the aluminum cladding.
The nominated renovation project clearly demonstrates how sustainable renovation can contribute to an energy-efficient future. By using Select Windows Energy Frames with triple-insulated glass, high-quality insulation of walls and roof, and other energy-saving measures, the villa is now completely gas-free and energy-neutral. This shows that sustainable renovation not only benefits the environment, but also provides financial benefits for the residents.
Marcel van Bockhooven, architect at Van Schie Architects was responsible for the design. "Our assignment was not only to renovate the villa sustainably with respect to insulation and energy savings, but certainly also to make it sustainable in use. In this process, we also paid attention to life-cycle sustainability. If you can use a house for a longer period of time, because you can stay there with several generations and there is even a care living unit, then the use is also sustainable. By the way, the care living unit is now mainly used as an extra guest room and garden room."
A total of six projects have been nominated for the VKG Architecture Award; 3 in the new construction category and 3 in the renovation category. On December 7, the award ceremony will take place during the seminar `Circular Design', organized by VKG Keurmerk and Stedebouw & Architectuur in the Metaal Kathedraal in Utrecht.
