'This circular cladding can be applied to the facade untreated'

At GEVEL 2022, Innodeen, known for the DTS sill, showed a new facade product from residual waste to the general public, the DBP SIDING. The fully circular biocomposite cladding could count on great interest. Indeed, the first projects are already a reality. We talk to Jos Beverborg, Technical Sales Engineer at Innodeen, about this new product with KOMO certification.

The company that developed the well-known black plastic DTS sill more than 20 years ago, which was embraced by the entire building industry in the Netherlands, is now coming up with a new innovation. "The DBP SIDING perfectly matches the needs in the market for more sustainable and circular solutions," says Beverborg. "We managed to develop a circular cladding produced from locally sourced and processed residues. In other words, a win-win for good reason. We have received a KOMO certificate on DBP SIDING and are now in the final stages for the MKI value of our product, which is expected to be very favorable."

Wood fiber and PP

Biocomposite cladding is produced by Innodeen from Compodeen or 100% residual waste. "It is a proven concept that originated over twenty years ago and for 72% consists of wood fiber and 28% of Polypropylene (PP), one of the most environmentally friendly plastics available," Beverborg explains. "The PP post consumer waste plastic literally comes from the familiar orange PMD waste bin or bag. The wood fiber portion comes from broken or old pallets, packaging material and unpainted scrap wood, among other things. This 'A-wood' was often burned in the past, but after grinding, the fibers turn out to be extremely suitable for application in our process. We then developed a unique technology to produce endless façade profiles from Compodeen via an extrusion process."

No waste

DBP SIDING is produced by Innodeen completely customized for a project. "There is no more waste on the construction site," says Beverborg. "By the way, not in our factory either, because we grind the sawing waste and put it back into the production process. So it is truly a circular product with consistent quality and with a technical lifespan of more than 50 years. DBP SIDING is certified to fire class D, meets durability class 1 and is therefore comparable to tropical hardwood."

Beverborg notices, especially after the official market launch at GEVEL 2022, that there is a lot of interest in DBP SIDING. "The samples are flying out the door here," he laughs. "Especially the circular aspect combined with the use of local 'raw materials' are appreciated. Apart from that, the product also just looks good."

DBP SIDING can be applied to the facade untreated, behaves optically like red cedar and thus will gray. It is also possible to have the profiles factory colored or treated with a high-quality coating in any RAL or wood color.
