The Axintor building, located in Veurne, is a beacon of efficient workspace design. Housing both Real Tobacco's and Axintor's operations, this project aimed to centralize logistics and office functions within an industrial environment. The project began in January 2019 and was completed by the end of the same year. The main focus was the south facade, which required a solution to block excessive sunlight while remaining aesthetically pleasing.
The building's design philosophy is rooted in functionality and identity. Thus, the Axintor offices were seamlessly integrated into the entire industrial design of the building. This was achieved through the integration of blinds, the creation of passageways connecting the offices to the outdoor space and a distinctive look for the entire building.
Architect Pieter Vandendries of Vandendries Capoen Architects explains, "The result of the thoughtful design is a space that not only serves its purpose, but also communicates the ethos of the company. The positive reception from the building's users underscores the success of this design approach, with the abundant natural light and stimulating work environments receiving particular praise."
Because the end of the building faces south, permanent shading of the building was necessary. Only in this way could a pleasant indoor climate be created for the employees of the interim office. After evaluating various materials, cooperation with DUCO emerged as the most suitable choice.
Pieter Vandendries explains: "The choice of DucoSlide LuxFrame Wood was not arbitrary, but the result of meticulous planning. By working with DUCO from the design phase, detailed shading studies could be carried out to ensure optimal dimensions, angles and slat distances."
"The shading system not only responds to the need for structural shading, but also aligns with the architectural vision of the client," explains Vandendries. "Moreover, the choice of the wooden panels was natural because of their warm appearance and colors that change naturally over time."
Looking back on the collaboration, Vandendries acknowledges the positive and constructive cooperation with all stakeholders, "The cooperation from design to execution ensured a seamless integration of the sun protection on the facade. We are very satisfied with the result"
By seamlessly integrating DucoSlide Wood blinds into the architectural blueprint of this project, Vandendries Capoen Architects not only enhanced the functionality of the workspace, but also created a visually striking landmark in Veurne.Or as architect Pieter Vandendries affirms, "It's not just about building structures; it's about creating environments that are conducive to productivity and identity."
