If you're product manager of the hardware range, you naturally let us know immediately when an innovative product has come onto the market. Detmer Deddens of BUVA in Barendrecht, is delighted that the new 3-point latch (the AV4D, ed.) sees the light of day. "It is a result of our role as a self-developing manufacturer, working closely with supplier Winkhaus, who ultimately created the technical solution," he says. "This new generation of automatic door locks offers (even) more security and comfort."
The Autolock AV4D latch is an automatic security door latch with independently operating, deep-acting hook bolts and sealing elements for dynamic contact pressure. When the door is pulled shut, the sealing elements and solid hook bolts are activated via magnetic activation in the frame to secure the door against unwanted entry.
"That way, the door remains securely locked at all times and stays firmly in the frame even without additional post-locking," Detmer says. "The door is locked at three points at all times: top, middle and bottom. This gives the door no chance to warp under the influence of sun and moisture. The solid hook bolts, the sealing elements and the latch bolt can be retracted manually with the profile cylinder or the door handle.
Compared to its predecessor, the AV3, the geometry of the hook latch and sealing element has been modified. How this improvement came about? Detmer explains: "Our account managers know pretty precisely what is going on in the market and for which conditions an adjustment should be made. It is then up to me to feed those noises back to our supplier and see how a technical improvement can be developed based on all that market information. This technical impulse is especially interesting for our customers in the plastics industry."
Whether the door is dark or light in color, being able to lock doors safely and properly - and open them again with ease - is something everyone should expect from a new generation of automatic security multi-point locks."
He adds that with the AV4Deen latch bolt with wicket door function can be supplied as an option. "This is the element that is placed in the frame that controls the security and burglar resistance . As an end user, you can switch the blue switch on the top very easily manually - you simply push it down - which makes the door closed but not locked. By switching the switch to the wicket door function, the hook bolts do not fall down. It's that simple." The door can now be easily unlocked from outside without a key with a push
are opened.
"A real-life example? Consider a family that wants the children to play outside. Fine! The front door can simply be closed due to the wicket door function, but the children playing outside can open the front door without a key from outside - with very little effort. So you no longer have to leave the door ajar or give your children a key, which they might lose while playing. And, since the door is closed (but not locked!) it will no longer be unnecessarily drafty in the house either!" Upon resetting the blue switch, the magnetic activation takes effect again and the door can be reliably locked again.
Detmer explains that the quality of the AV4D is very high. "Thanks to the dynamic pressing force of the sealing element, the doors will still fit flush even after years of use. In short, safety and comfort!"
Detmer concludes, "We are naturally proud of this innovation. But let's not forget that BUVA is much more than this innovation. We carry a range of about 3,500 products of door hardware, cylinders, hinges, door closers, window hardware, toughened glass, ventilation grilles and under sills. We are one of the most complete suppliers for door and window elements."
