In Alblasserdam, Metalura has been producing glass wall systems, terrace coverings, garden rooms, balcony glazing and wind screens since 2008. Usually for private individuals, but the hospitality industry and vacation resorts are now also among its customers. The company regularly develops new products, such as solar carports and, very recently, a completely free-standing insulated outdoor space. This can be used, for example, as a home office or studio. The problem was that the existing hardware did not fit the very slender profiles. A search brought Metalura to Deurklink24, which offered a ready-made solution.
Metalura's delivery program basically consists of all the spaces you can build on a balcony, a terrace or in a garden. "We make glass structures with aluminum that allow a piece of outdoor space to be used all year round," says Peter Reintjes, commercial director at Metalura. "That can be a windbreak or garden room on the balcony, a terrace canopy, but also a windbreak for the garden or a whole garden room. The choice of finishes and colors is large, and for the moving glass walls one can opt for a turn-folding system or a sliding system. We always work in direct contact with the end user and can take care of the entire preliminary process, including design and permits."
A recent development is the use of HR++-glass. "Many of our products are built with single glass, which you can put together without profiles," Reintjes explains. "Nowadays, we can also perform many turn-folding systems and sliding walls with HR++-glass. This provides year-round thermal comfort and also provides the necessary noise reduction - think of children playing next door. Thus, a completely free-standing insulated outdoor space was developed that can serve as a garden office or studio. Our engineers designed the structure with slender aluminum profiles about 50 mm wide. With the hardware we normally use, this was not combinable: the mechanism with lock did not fit and a round knob was not the ideal combination aesthetically."
Then there had to be an alternative. That could well amount to costly customization. "One of our engineers then used the Internet to search for a good quality solution and ended up at Deurklink24," Reintjes continues. "Of type Eliot, inquiries revealed that the mechanism fit wonderfully into the limited space of our slim profile. Moreover, the sleek design blended seamlessly into our design. We have since successfully implemented the combination on three projects."
The cooperation between Metalura and Deurklink24 is still early days, yet Reintjes already has a good feeling about it. "From our engineers involved I hear many positive sounds. High service level, short lines of communication, quick response and good thinking along with them are qualities they benefit from. What I especially like is the transparent way of working and the possibilities we can offer our customers with their products. And of course that with Eliot we found a door handle with lock that we could use in no time. You don't want to know what customization would have cost."
