Lasita Aachen AS is one of the most renowned manufacturers of wooden windows in Estonia. For years, this window manufacturer has been using 3E-LOOK, the ERP program from the South German software provider 3E. In this interview, CEO Karl-Martin Rammo describes how the company has developed over the years and what role digitalization plays today and in the near future.
"Lasita was founded in 1989 as a joint venture between Finns and Estonians. This makes it Estonia's oldest industrial manufacturer of wooden windows. Since 1998 we started with tilt and turn windows. To this day, together with the production of Lift&Slide systems, this still forms our core business. Our team has 75 employees and we focus mainly on the Baltic States and Scandinavia. We want to offer our customers a complete value-added package, not just a product that fills a hole in the wall."
You have been using the ERP software 3E-LOOK for a long time. What convinced you that this is the right solution for your application?
"It has indeed been a long time since we made the decision to partner with 3E and use 3E-LOOK. We are still working with this software. That is proof that we made the right decision at the time. We were convinced that we needed to connect and automate our business processes more. At that time, we looked at and compared several options. Of all the solutions, 3E-LOOK best met our requirements. After all, we were already using the software for our order processing at that time. So our choice was consistent and logical with a view to the future."
A word on the topic of digitization. Which processes do you think are already adequately covered by the ERP?
"We have digitized a lot of important processes in record time, mainly in production. The benefits are clearly noticeable. We have also made great progress in material management thanks to the move to digitization. I think that in today's world, digitization is a continuous process. Incidentally, this is also the case in the window manufacturing industry. Products are constantly being developed further and this does not stand still for a moment."
"We obviously don't use paper anymore. However, there are a lot of advantages in terms of information flow. All stations have up-to-date data and the whole workflow can be controlled with it. For us, this is a very useful tool."
Are there any plans to digitize other processes? If so, which ones?
"We are going to do that anyway. We have already eliminated many manual activities and want to go one step further to digitize even more processes. Especially daily recurring tasks we want to automate anyway."
"The main advantage is the continuous digitization and the fact that all relevant data are managed centrally. This saves us a lot of time and money. The graphical display of information in the form of dashboards also makes daily work much easier."
