'Adjustable chain stroke protects against any weather'

Electric window controls indispensable for natural ventilation school building

When it comes to the health of students and staff, educational institutions leave nothing to chance. Not for nothing has Teleflex, a specialist in electrical and mechanical window controls - and the address for top hung, bottom hung, skylight and sliding windows - had schools from all over the Netherlands as customers for many years. Among the loyal customers is also the Hofstad Lyceum in The Hague. "To ensure an even better indoor climate, last fall we equipped a common room and a number of classrooms with electric window openers," says operational manager Jesse Verheem of Teleflex BV.

Adjustable chain stroke

Four black-colored type C20 electric window openers were chosen for the common room, while five gray ACK4 electric chain openers were installed in the classrooms. Jesse explains the main difference between these two types of window openers: "The C20 can open windows up to a maximum of 360 mm, while the ACK4 can open up to 400 mm. In addition, on the ACK4 there is an external dial on both sides of the opener that makes it easy to adjust the chain stroke; either to 100, 150, 200, 300, 350 or 400 mm. Suppose there is a storm or heavy rain coming, the janitor or teacher, for example, can choose to have the window open a maximum of 100 mm. Thus, the adjustable chain stroke protects against any type of weather. In addition, the ACK4 has a durable stainless steel chain that is extra resistant to extreme weather conditions."

High protection class

What also makes the C20 and the ACK4 so practical to use is that both types can be operated in two ways. "Namely, this can be done with a Venetian blind switch on the wall, but in addition, the user also always has a radio remote control behind him," says Jesse, who has another explanation for the great popularity of these chain openers: "Both types of window openers are in a high protection class: in the case of the C20 it is IP30 and in the case of the ACK4 IP 55. Both types of window openers are available in both 230V and 24V models, with a choice of black, white and gray. Thus, the customer can always choose a version that the situation demands the most. Moreover, with IP55, the ACK4 in particular is in a high protection class."
