Complete indoor playground completed within six months
An indoor playground to make your recreation resort less weather-dependent: a good idea. How do you get that indoor playground up and running within six months? A matter of good planning and a partner who thinks along ...
Henk Akkerman, park manager of Recreation Resort Binnenmaas in Mijnsheerenland, explains how Indoor Playground Binnenmaas came about. "At the end of 2022 it was decided that we would build new buildings and that the indoor playground would open in the summer of 2023."
"We first asked a few playground equipment suppliers to come up with a plan," Henk continues. "We chose the supplier with the plan that best matched our ideas. Based on this, we worked out the arrangement of the climbing bridge and the other playground equipment in a floor plan. Around this the building had to be built. For this we called in Hanse Group. Hanse is a specialist in steel construction and that fits well with the look and feel we had in mind: a black pot lid with red saddleback roof, a style you see a lot on farms in De Hoeksche Waard."
On behalf of Hanse, sales consultant Leendert Offermans was closely involved in the project. "In consultation with the client, we worked out the design. This also included a catering facility and a toilet group. With a first floor, we further created seating space above the catering facility. In accordance with the regulations for escape routes, two staircases were installed in the process." Hanse also handled the permit application for the project and the necessary surveys. "With the exception of the installation work and the interior finishing of the hospitality area, we also carried out all the construction work," Leendert said.
The farm is the theme of the playground. Only recyclable materials were chosen for its implementation. For example, all the playground equipment is made of wood. "The steel construction fits well with the look of wood. On the facades, our people used precast elements to mount a concrete parapet. Sandwich panels were placed on top of this, against which steel pot lid profile plates were then mounted. Sandwich panels were also used for the roof construction," Leendert explains.
The windows and doors are done with plastic frames. "We chose these because they are durable and low maintenance," Henk explains.
The frame profile system used is VEKA SOFTLINE 82 AD. Part of the window frames are finished in pure white RAL 9016 (inside and outside). The other frames are finished in SEIDENGLATT black gray RAL 7021 (inside and outside). "The black window frames inside match well with the also black roof and facade panels. Combined with the mood lighting, it gives a nice look," Leendert adds.
A playground must obviously be child-safe. Protruding parts and sharp edges are therefore carefully eliminated. The drop floor at the climbing bridge has an elevation that meets all safety requirements, including fall height and fall space. "Hanse also contributed to this, including by making drawings in which the desired height is indicated," says Henk.
The parties enlisted by Recreatieoord Binnenmaas set to work with a challenging schedule. "On January 10, 2023, the first pile was driven. At the beginning of June 2023 everything had to be ready so we could hold the open weekend." That schedule was met. "Sometimes, though, many parties were working at the same time. But communication and cooperation between parties was good; Hanse certainly contributed to that," says Henk. Along the way, another unforeseen bump had to be taken. "During the second construction meeting, we discovered that the playground equipment was so large that it could not enter through the planned emergency door. The playground equipment supplier hadn't thought of that either." Fortunately, it was easy to solve. "Instead of one emergency door, Hanse made a double emergency door. All of the equipment was able to get in this way and can also get out again if ever needed."
Henk looks back on the project with satisfaction. "The theme, the Hoeksche Waard farm, was filled in nicely: with natural materials, light and sound and lots of play value. The completion date did cause some pressure but the schedule was met; that is fairly unique." The according to the Warenwetbesluit attractie- en speeltoestellen 2023 required certification with indoor playground approval could also be obtained in a timely manner. About the cooperation with Hanse, Henk is positive: "Hanse is a party that thinks and tackles well; they can also be proud of this project." Leendert certainly is: "Nowadays, as Hanse Group, we are a total builder. But in steel construction, Hanse has been a specialist for a hundred years. This was a great project that we enjoyed working on!"
It's nice that the creators and creators of the playground are so pleased. But the most important thing, of course, is what the users think of it. Henk knows exactly: "I am almost always in the park. Early in the morning I usually stand at the entrance, so that I can open the playground door and welcome the first visitors. From kids who have never been here before, all you hear is: wow, cool, kick-ass, super! Those reactions: that's what we do it for."
