A few years ago, CORTIZO, international market leader in aluminum and plastic systems for architecture, made its first appearance at Polyclose. Since then, demand in the Benelux market for systems from this company headquartered in Padrón, Spain, has risen sharply. Recently, interested frame manufacturers can also visit the new CORTIZO showroom in Kampenhout, close to Brussels.
It is Thursday, June 20. A delegation from CORTIZO has flown in specially from Spain to Brussels for the grand opening of the showroom in Kampenhout. Among them are Marketing Manager Javier Figueroa and Daniel Lainz, Architectural Systems General Manager of the company from the Spanish province of Coruña. Full of pride, they talk about the origins and further development of their company. "Founded in 1972 as a small carpentry factory, CORTIZO started in the 1980s with its own aluminum foundry and a number of plants for extrusion, powder coating and anodizing. Starting in the 1990s, the company also began to focus increasingly on the design and development of aluminum and plastic window frame systems for international markets. Today, our annual production capacity consists of some 150,000 tons of aluminum and 45,000 tons of PVC. This has made CORTIZO an international name in aluminum and plastic systems for architecture. We operate in 78 countries, with a clearly growing market in Belgium and the Netherlands in recent years."
The latter is also confirmed by Salvador Gonzalez, who, as Technical Sales Advisor Benelux, is also responsible for the affairs of the new showroom. "Especially after our participation in Polyclose a few years ago, the demand from the Belgian and Dutch markets for our products has increased," says Salvador. "But to be able to supply to these countries, we did first study the specifics of both the Belgian and Dutch architectural markets.
For example, in the Netherlands it is common to work from outside to inside, so to speak, using a stop profile. This is very different again from Belgium where a lot of blue stone is used and where renovation profiles are needed to include the step between the inner and outer wall in your invisible drainage. All this kind of specific information we then pass on to our R&D department in Spain, where the profiles are then adapted to the specific requirements of each country."
With the development of country-specific profile systems, however, you are far from being there, Salvador clarifies. "No, because in order to be able to sell in the Benelux, our systems first also had to have an ATG certificate for the Belgian market and an SGK certificate for the Dutch market. We have now completed our certifications for the Benelux market. That is why we have now opened this new showroom, especially for frame manufacturers who want to see and feel our top products here. In order to better serve the Dutch market as well, we are incidentally planning to open our own showroom in the middle of the Netherlands in the course of 2025."
One of the eye-catchers in the brand new showroom in Kampenhout is the COR VISION PLUS, a sliding system with sashes of up to 4 meters, a center post of only 25 mm and frames embedded in the perimeter, allowing a glass area of up to as much as 94 percent. This solution is suitable for glass thicknesses of up to 56 mm and can be supplied with a manual (up to 400 kg) or motorized (up to 700 kg) opening system. To optimize the transition between inside and outside, the rail can be hidden and even fully integrated into the floor. Another flagship for the Benelux market is the folding wall BI-FOLD PLUS, a double door system with an 80 mm deep frame and a slim 110 mm center post. What is new is that, in addition to our aluminum systems, our plastic systems have now also already been adapted to the specific requirements of the Dutch and Belgian markets, where they have been available since 2024."
With a production process entirely in-house and more than 30 logistics centers spread throughout Europe, CORTIZO is able to supply all its customers quickly. Daniel Lainz adds that the company is also committed to sustainability: "For example, we have two foundries where aluminum residual waste from our customers is completely recycled into new profiles, leading to enormous energy savings. Moreover, a third large foundry will be added in February 2025 where 100,000 tons of recycled aluminum can be produced annually. This means that we will soon be able to supply all our customers with this so-called post-consumer aluminum. This is also kind of necessary, because for more and more of our customers - also in the Benelux - such environmentally friendly production and the pursuit of a circular economy is a prerequisite."
