'Synchronous unlocking of locks is unique'

Automatic multi-point locking system offers solution for pivot doors

Pivot doors are among the most technically demanding door constructions, especially when such a pivot door is used as an entrance door to a home or business. The brand new automatic locking system from Germany's FUHR provides the solution for such large and prestigious exterior doors. "This is the only locking solution with synchronous locking," says Jacco Dirckx, product manager of FUHR Benelux.

Pivot doors: you see them on almost every home decorating program on TV. "But these usually involve interior doors," says Jacco. "When using a pivot door as an entrance to a building, however, you run into very different technical challenges. Well, as FUHR, we are
precisely specialized in locking solutions for these exterior doors." 

The latest addition to FUHR's autosafe 835 series is thereby an automatic locking system for pivot doors, complemented by a powerful autotronic drive. "The uniqueness of this automatic multi-point locking system is the synchronous unlocking of the locks on both the wide and narrow sides, even when using an interior door handle," explains the product manager. "A challenge with these often large door elements is also ensuring a high level of burglary protection and water and wind tightness. The intelligent DuoSecure technology with stable hook bolts ensures that the doors are securely locked. Additional latch bolts guarantee a good seal. We have also tested this new multi-point locking system extensively; this has shown that - with the right extensions - door heights of up to 4 meters can be easily achieved."

Impact contacts possible

The new locking system also allows the use of bump contacts, Jacco continues. "This has the advantage that you don't have to go through the upper pivot door hinge with your cable. Furthermore, a battery module ensures that motorized locks continue to work even during a power failure. The battery module takes over the 12 V DC operating voltage without interruption if the 230 V mains voltage fails. This means that you can always operate the door even if it is open. For optimal operation when using bump contacts in pivot doors, we recommend this battery module, but especially for doors without cylinder or door handles."

Powerful motor drive

FUHR's new automatic multi-point locking system is complemented by an autotronic door operator. Jacco: "The switching contacts of this lock ensure optimal door operation on both the wide and narrow side of the sash. The switching contacts can be activated optionally via access control, a push button, door handle or cylinder. As an added benefit, this locking system also allows optional permanent unlocking without additional control for even greater convenience."

Exclusive look

A pivot door as the main entrance door lends every building an exclusive appearance. It is not for nothing that more and more architects throughout Europe are opting for this aesthetically pleasing solution. "In countries like Dubai, you can even see imposing pivot doors with a height of up to 7 meters," Jacco says. According to him, there is therefore an increasing demand for such prestigious exterior doors. "With our new automatic multi-point locking system, we are consciously responding to this and meeting a clear need in the market."
